耀園 Chinese Gardens

In 1844, there was a renowned pleasure park in Hurstpierpoint known as Chinese Gardens, situated on Chinese Road, which has since been renamed Western Road. This park boasted various attractions including a lake, donkey rides, a hotel, restaurants, and other amusements. On Monday, the 27th of May 1844, the park's opening was officially announced in the public newspapers. Fast forward to the present day, Chinese Gardens - Chinese Takeaway in Hurstpierpoint was inaugurated on Monday, the 27th of May 2024. Remarkably, this opening coincides with the exact date, day, and month, 180 years later, and within a distance of less than 800 meters from the original park location.
